BORISSOV AFTER A MEETING WITH YILDIRIM: LET US INVEST IN INFRASTRUCTURE AND EDUCATION, NOT IN NEW FENCES

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim within the framework of the Munich Security Conference.

 

The main topic of their conversation focused on infrastructure projects in the region. Prime Minister Borissov unerlined the important role of trans-European corridors 4, 8 and 10, which ensure connectivity in Europe. "Let us spend money on infrastructure, education, and culture and not on new fences," said Borissov and added that the construction of railways, highways and digital infrastructure should happen in parallel. Turkish Prime Minister Yildirim stated that the improvement of infrastructure will be done in accord with European standards. "I am very impressed with what Bulgaria has achieved in this respect," he said and pointed out that currently the segment from Kapikule to Istanbul is being constructed. "Once it is completed, it will be possible to reach China from London. We will have very modern infrastructure that will pass through Bulgaria and Turkey," noted Yildirim.

 

The two discussed the migration crisis and highlighted the good results from the joint work between Sofia and Ankara. It was also commented on the preparations for the EU-Turkey summit that will take place in Varna at the end of March. The Turkish Prime Minister informed Borissov about his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, which he defined as fruitful and a step towards the improvement of relations.
