PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV: THE EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE FOR THE WESTERN BALKANS IS A GUARANTEE FOR PEACE, SECURITY, AND STABILITY IN THE REGION

During its first Presidency of the EU Council, Bulgaria proved to be a stable partner for European countries, which has the political will to seek consensus. The European perspective for the countries of the Western Balkans is a guarantee for peace, security, and stability in the region. This was stated by Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during his meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York. The two spoke at the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly.

 

Prime Minister Borissov highlighted that the joint efforts by the Balkan countries to promote investment and connectivity in the region aim to improve the living standard for the people. "The implementation of infrastructure, transport, and digital connectivity projects will significantly change living conditions in this part of Europe and stimulate the economic growth of the countries in the region," explained the Prime Minister.

 

During the conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov underlined that Bulgaria will continue to support any initiative aimed at achieving lasting peace in the world. The Bulgarian Prime Minister stressed that within the United Nations policy on the protection and promotion of human rights, Bulgaria places particular emphasis on preventing and combating discrimination, racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, hate crimes and all forms of intolerance. Boyko Borissov shared his hope for a resolution to the conflict in the Middle East soon.

 

Prime Minister Borissov expressed the view that for Bulgaria the main tools for strengthening peace and security in the world remain global cooperation and humanity.
