PRIME MINISTERS BOYKO BORISSOV AND ZORAN ZAEV COMMEMORATED IN ROME THE WORK OF THE HOLY BROTHERS CYRIL AND METHODIUS

24.05.2018

Prime Ministers Boyko Borissov and Zoran Zaev and their official delegations jointly commemorated the work of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius at the Basilica "Santa Maria Maggiore" in Rome. At this site, in 867, Pope Adrian II consecrated the Slavonic script and the Slavonic books.

Boyko Borissov and Zoran Zaev highlighted the significance of the work of St. St. Cyril and Methodius, which has contributed to the spirituality, enlightenment, and unification of the Slavic peoples.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister also noted the role of the Holy Brothers in the field of diplomacy at this historic moment. "At the memorial plaque of St. St. Cyril and Methodius where our letters were lit, we went back to diplomacy. For me the two brothers were diplomats," Prime Minister Borissov noted. He emphasized the significant contribution of the work of the Holy Brothers, recalling that they convinced Pope Adrian II that our scrip is equal to that of other peoples. According to the Prime Minister, Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia show that holidays should be celebrated together and not be a cause for contention.

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said that today's commemoration, marked together by the two delegations, is a confirmation of the true friendship between Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the delegation led by him presented flowers to the monument of the Patriarch of Bulgarian literature Ivan Vazov in Rome. The monument was unveiled in 2010 by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at Thorvaldsen Square, near the Villa Borghese Park and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
