PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV SPOKE WITH THE TURKISH MINISTER OF ECONOMY NIHAT ZEYBEKCI

At a meeting in Sofia, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Turkey's Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekci discussed the state of the economic partnership between the two countries and the possibilities for its expansion. The conversation marked the excellent contacts in a variety of economic sectors and it was pointed out that the good neighborly relations between Bulgaria and Turkey contribute to the increase in bilateral trade and the intensification of the trade and economic partnership.

 

An example of this is provided by Turkish investments in Bulgaria, which for the period January-September 2017 amounted to 58.8 million euro. For the first nine months of last year, there was also growth of 17.4 percent in trade with Turkey.

 

The Bulgarian Prime Minister and the Turkish Minister noted that the potential for further developing the trade and economic cooperation and investments is far from exhausted. During the meeting, it was pointed out that Turkish companies in Bulgaria are mostly interested in projects related to the construction of transport and energy infrastructure. At the same time, the food, chemical and textile industries also offer a wide range of opportunities for investment. During the conversation, it was stated that there is potential for the entry of more automotive manufacturers - a sector in which Turkey has a strong tradition and a share in global production. Both countries will continue to work in cooperation on joint ventures.

 

Boyko Borissov and Nihat Zeybekci also discussed the bilateral cooperation in the field of energy. The Turkish Minister of Economy stressed that both countries' energy policies are of strategic importance both bilaterally and for the entire Europe. The importance of the diversification of energy sources and supplies for our country was highlighted, whereby the construction of gas interconnectors has an important role.
