16.05.2018

The mutual commitment to reforms by the European Union and the Western Balkans is needed. This was pointed out by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at a meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic. The Bulgarian Prime Minister added that it is extremely important not to lose the momentum in the efforts to integrate the region into European values and practices and that he relies on Croatian support in this respect, as well.

He also said that he expects that the further integration of the Western Balkan countries' into the European family will be sustained, because this is the only way to build on what has been achieved so far. "The Balkans have the potential to become one of the best places to live in Europe if we all join our efforts and energy to build infrastructure projects for the sake of economic development and prosperity for the nations," Prime Minister Borissov said.

Andrej Plenkovic confirmed that Croatia will initiate the next EU-Western Balkans summit in 2020. He would like it to serve as a review of the progress on the projects launched as a result of the Bulgarian Presidency's initiative, as well as a further enhancement for the process of convergence between the countries of the region and the other countries in Europe.
