PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV MET WITH US DEPUTY SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN SULLIVAN

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan. The conversation focused on security, energy, investment, and the bilateral relations.

 

Prime Minister Borissov once again assured that Bulgaria is fully fulfilling its commitments to NATO and reconfirmed the increase in defense spending to 2% of GDP by 2024, as well as more investments for arms and equipment.

 

US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan highlighted that Bulgaria is a stable and predictable partner within the Alliance and bilaterally. Sullivan conveyed a message from US President Donald Trump to Prime Minister Borissov on the importance and high appreciation of bilateral friendship and parntership with Bulgaria for the United States.

 

Among the highlights of the meeting between Boyko Borissov and John Sullivan was also energy security and cooperation between the two countries in this area. The Prime Minister informed Sullivan on the progress with the interconnector between Bulgaria and Greece, on the ambitions of our country to maintain its role in the transportation and trade in gas, as well as with the "Belene" project.

 

"Bulgaria pursues a policy aimed to ensure the energy security both for the country and the EU," said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. He pointed out that we are actively working on energy diversification and projects for gas connectors with neighboring countries.
