PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV HELD A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH US SECRETARY OF STATE MIKE POMPEO

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov held a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the request of the American statesman. The topics during the call covered  cooperation in the fields of security and defense, as well as the success of military exercises. Energy security, diversification, and the European Gas Distribution Center Balkan were also discussed. Emphasis was additionally placed on investment and the bilateral relations.

 

During the conversation Boyko Borissov and Mike Pompeo highlighted the high-profile and very fruitful visit of the US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, who was on a two-day visit to Bulgaria last week. The Bulgarian Prime Minister  informed the US Secretary of State that in respect to the majority of the  topics discussed with John Sullivan solutions have already been found.

 

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo underlined their commitment to enhancing and developing the geostrategic partnership between Bulgaria and the United States at an even faster pace. Prime Minister Borissov reassured that Bulgaria is strictly fulfilling its commitments to NATO and confirmed the increase in defense spending to 2% of GDP by 2024, as well as enabling more investments in arms and equipment.
