PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV: DURING THE BULGARIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EU NEGOTIATIONS WERE LAUNCHED ON A NEW PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH 79 COUNTRIES FROM AFRICA, THE CARIBBEAN, AND THE PACIFIC

Reaching the universal, but closely interlinked, sustainable development objectives as set out in the 2030 Plan is the key to meeting today's global challenges. This was said by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in his speech at the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit within the framework of the UN General Assembly in New York. The forum is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's birth.

 

Speaking at the meeting, Boyko Borissov said the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of this year has made considerable efforts to achieve progress and consensus among member states on the main directions in this area. "We are proud that the mandate of the European Union to start negotiations on a new partnership agreement with 79 African, Caribbean and Pacific countries was adopted during this period. The negotiations aim to attain a modern and dynamic partnership with these countries as an important instrument for addressing global challenges - from fighting poverty and inequality to promoting peace, security, and sustainable growth for all," Borissov said.

 

During his intervention, the Bulgarian Prime Minister called for the elimination of violence because based on gender, religion, and ethnicity in Africa and around the world. Borissov also spoke in favor of the empowerment of women and young people, who are the future of the world.

 

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov expressed the sincere sympathy of the Bulgarian people with the ideals of Nelson Mandela for freedom, equality, and justice in the relations between people all over the world. "Nelson Mandela has remained forever in human history as a bright symbol of the aspirations of African peoples, as well as of all peoples of the world for freedom, peace, development, and prosperity. His work has triggered a series of events and changes that have led to the establishment of new thinking and international relations based on the protection of human rights, together with ensuring social justice, development and promoting reconciliation," said Borisov.
