PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV ATTENDED THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE 12TH ASIA-EUROPE SUMMIT

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov participated in the official opening of the 12th Asia-Europe Summit (ASEM), which this year is hosted by the European Union in Brussels. The forum also includes heads of state and government of 51 countries from Europe and Asia and representatives of the European institutions.

 

Tonight, the ASEM forum was opened by European Council President Donald Tusk, the European Union was also represented by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. At the heart of the discussion is the topic "Europe and Asia: Global Partners to Address Global Challenges". The efforts of the leaders are aimed at enhancing dialogue and cooperation between the two continents in a number of areas, including trade and investment, connectivity, sustainable development, climate change, security challenges - the fight against terrorism, illegal migration, and cyber security.

 

During the working session of ASEM tomorrow, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov will deliver a speech that will inform about Bulgaria's efforts directed towards the European perspective of the Western Balkans and the connectivity in the region. Later, the ASEM Summit will be followed by an EU-Korea Summit and a meeting of EU and ASEAN leaders.

 

ASEM is a forum for dialogue and cooperation between Asia and Europe, set up in 1996 in Bangkok. By bringing together 58% of the world's population and 60% of world trade, ASEM is an important platform for dialogue and cooperation between Europe and Asia, based on three pillars - political, economic, and socio-cultural.
