PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV AND EU COMMISSIONER ELZBIETA BIENKOWSKA DISCUSSED TRANSPORT AND DIGITAL CONNECTIVITY IN EUROPE AND THE WESTERN BALKANS

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and European Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Elzbieta Bienkowska discussed today the transport and digital connectivity in the Western Balkans as an indispensable part of the European perspective for the countries from the region. EU Commissioner Bienkowska noted that better connectivity is a prerequisite for boosting competitiveness and improving the business environment both in the Western Balkan countries and across Europe.

 

Elzbieta Bienkowska congratulated Prime Minister Borissov and Bulgaria on their contribution for establishing the Western Balkans as part of the EU agenda and expressed the view that the enlargement of the Union's borders brings risks but also many opportunities. As one of the challenges, she mentioned the guarantee of the security of EU citizens. In this regard, Commissioner Bienkowska and Prime Minister Borissov welcomed the founding of the European Defense Fund and the pertinent Industrial Development Program. "Innovation is key for the development of the European defense industry and this adds extra weight to your portfolio," Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told the European Commissioner.

 

During the meeting, the two also discussed the future EU Industrial Policy Strategy.
