PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV: THE TREATY FOR GOOD NEIGHBORLY RELATIONS WITH THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA IS ALREADY A FACT, PRACTICAL WORK IS DUE

14.02.2018

With the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborly Relations and Cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia, the two parliaments, the governments, the two of us together with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev did something good for our countries, but now practical work is ahead of us. Thus Prime Minister Boyko Borissov commented on the completed procedure for the entry into force of the Treaty signed on 1 August 2017. This took place at a ceremony at the Granite Hall of the Council of Ministers today, where Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov exchanged the ratification documents.

The practical work begins tomorrow with a meeting of the transport ministers of Bulgaria, the Republic of Macedonia and Albania, Prime Minister Borissov explained. The meeting will focus on the discussion of the stages and the segments related to the construction of the future road, rail and digital infrastructure connecting the countries. These topics will also be discussed at a forum of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on 26 February in London so that a completed plan could be presented at a meeting on 1 March in Sofia with EC Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and representatives of the candidate countries for EU membership.

“In fact, we already have substantial funding from the three largest banks - the World Bank, the EBRD and the EIB. Everybody is waiting for our projects, and with their realization we will contribute to the development of the region. The Balkans will be a fairy tale if we manage to complete what we are currently working on - trans-European corridors 4, 8 and 10. And we will complete these projects, because they are on the table for everyone,” Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said.
