PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV MET WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE BULGARIAN COMMUNITY IN TEL AVIV

13.06.2018

I am proud of the contribution of Bulgaria, which is the single coutry in the world that saved 50,000 Jews from the death camps in the past century. This was stated by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, who was on a working visit to the State of Israel and held a meeting in Tel Aviv with representatives of the Bulgarian community. The city's mayor Ron Huldai also attended the event.

There are many peoples who take pride in how they conquered other peoples, and we are proud of how we saved other peoples. So when we Bulgarians come to Israel we feel the Israelis as our genuine countrymen, Borissov added, giving the examples of the monuments that both countries will unveil and the friendship between them. We must preserve the memory for our grandchildren, the memory for the next generations - our and your grandchildren, he stressed, and urged the two nations to stay together and to help each other.

Borissov once again noted that the Bulgarian Jews have made a significant contribution to the development of the State of Israel and we must all be proud of this fact and continue to respect their efforts. According to him, the traditionally good relations between the two countries have a lot of potential to further unfold, and the Bulgarian people rely on our fellow countrymen in Israel to cooperate actively for the realization of this potential in the best possible way.
