PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV: HIGH TECHNOLOGIES WHEREBY ISRAEL IS LEADING HAVE POTENTIAL FOR DEVELOPMENT IN BULGARIA AND IN THE OTHER BALKAN COUNTRIES

01.11.2018

Both Israel and Bulgaria are in a very key location. Our region is such that with common efforts, tolerance and friendship we have to solve our problems and the Balkans have a huge perspective, said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov after his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at "Evksinograd" Residence. The two spoke in private prior to the quadrilateral summit between Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Serbia, where Prime Minister Netanyahu will be a guest at the invitation of his Bulgarian counterpart.

Prime Minister Borissov pointed out that tomorrow's forum is related to the desire of the European Union and the Balkans as part of it to be ever more prosperous. According to him, the potential for development lies precisely in the fields, in which Israel is a leader, and Bulgaria and the other Balkan countries have potential. Prime Minister Borissov mentioned as examples the spheres of high technologies and security. "I hope in the near future to develop our military production sites for joint manifacturing of drones," added the Prime Minister.

During the bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Borissov informed his Israeli counterpart on the results of his visit to the UAE and Egypt. The emphasis had been placed on the possibility of creating food hubs in the Balkans, the development of cooperation in the field of information technology, and the building of "bridges" between countries in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, and others.

"It is an honor for me that you initiated this important summit. The cooperation between Bulgaria and the Western Balkans, the common vision of the region we share together is something that can help all countries in the region," Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu noted. According to him, the fact that this is his third meeting with Prime Minister Borissov in only four months is indicative not only of their friendship but also of their common vision of what they can achieve for their countries and friends. Netanyahu added that more than 210,000 tourists from Israel visited Bulgaria last year, and that he hoped that the number will increase after his visit.

The Israeli Prime Minister focused on the topic of energy, which he said also has great potential. He noted the ambitious east Mediterranean East Med project, stressing that a small amount of this gas, which is currently being negotiated with Greece, could reach Bulgaria as well.

Benjamin Netanyahu thanked for the hospitality. "Thanks to your leadership, Bulgaria has become a leading EU country, not only on the Balkans but also, of course, on the world stage," Israeli Prime Minister told Boyko Borissov. Netanyahu also noted that Bulgaria is an extremely important partner for Israel, and relations between the two countries should continue in the same spirit because these are important to both peoples, the region and the world.
