24.06.2018

All EU leaders congratulated Bulgaria on its active and successful work on migration during the EU Council Presidency. This was stated by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in Brussels, where he participated in the working meeting on migration and asylum, convened by the European Commission. The heads of state and government supported Bulgaria's position on the issue of solving migratory pressures in Europe. French President Emmanuel Macron defined our position as good, well-constructed and technically argumented. He congratulated the Bulgarian Prime Minister on the work Bulgaria has been doing on the refugee issue and in respect to the good cooperation with Turkey. "Constructed in this manner, the migration issue can be solved in a very short time. If all external border countries were like Bulgaria, the issue would be resolved," said the Prime Minister. He added that financial support for frontline countries should continue to ensure that the refugee influx is stopped. The Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out that there is a need for flexible arrangements in regard to the migration centers outside the territory of Europe. "In these centres, in addition to the medical assistence, legal assistance should also be provided in order to put an end to this mass exodus from Africa, Asia and other places," said Boyko Borissov.
